John I. Hanson, Jr.

John Ivan Hanson, Jr., 55, of Dilworth, MN, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, in his home. John was born January 20, 1959, in Moorhead, MN. He grew up in Baker, MN, and attended school in Moorhead. John enlisted in the U.S. Army, was stationed in Texas and later served in Germany. Following his service, John returned and continued his education at Moorhead Technical College. He married Sheri A. Baumgartner on June 12, 1982. Together they lived in Moorhead for two years before making their home in Dilworth. John enjoyed his years as an Auto Technician and took pride in helping the many people over the years. After retiring in 2006, he enjoyed working on his cars and helping others with theirs. He also enjoyed spending time at the lake and watching NASCAR, but most of all loved spending time with his family. He was a caring and generous friend to so many, and a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa. He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his wife, Sheri; children, Michael Hanson, Jessica Hanson and James fiancé Sarah Hofer Hanson; granddaughter, Mikalah; mother, Marilyn Gorman; siblings, Kevin Holly Hanson, Steve Hanson, Shirley Hanson, Cindy Bill Dorrance Hanson, Mark Hanson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, John I. Hanson, Sr.; grandparents, Burger and Rose Hanson, and Clifford and Lucille Cook; and niece, Jana Rose Hanson.

Visitation: Monday, May 26, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7 p.m., and will continue on Tuesday from 10 – 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Dilworth, MN.

Funeral Mass: Tuesday, May 27, at 11 a.m., in St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Dilworth, MN.

Interment: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
