John K. Haas

John K. Haas, 72, of Dilworth, MN, passed away July 2, 2016, at the VA Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

John Kibler Haas was born March, 26, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Robert and Maria Kibler Haas.

John was a very gifted athlete at an early age playing baseball, football and basketball, excelling in baseball. He was drafted by the L.A. Dodgers after graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1962. He instead accepted a scholarship for baseball at Highland University in New Mexico. After one year he went into the Army from 1963 – 1965 and was stationed in Germany.

After the Army he returned to baseball and signed a rookie contract in 1966 with the Philadelphia Phillies ‘A’ club in Spartanburg, SC. After two years he returned to Fargo where he met and married Laurel Wenneson, June 29, 1972 and they were best friends until his death. They had one son, Robert.

John started working for Sweeny Bros Tractor Company in 1977 and stayed with them for 20 years. He finished his career working at the VA Hospital for five years. He finally got his college Associates Degree in Accounting from Moorhead Tech. in 2005 at the age of 61.

He loved watching baseball especially the Yankees as well as Vikings and NDSU Bison football. He also enjoyed playing softball on his beloved team named “The Uncommon Men”.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie, of 44 years; son, Bob Haas; grandson, John “J.T” Haas; sister, Robin; nieces, Carrie Pete Martinez, Nicole Roy Henderson and special cousins Tom and Chris.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Lynn Haas

Funeral: Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10 AM with a visitation one hour before in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
