John Manney

John Franklin Manney, 81, Moorhead, MN, died on Sunday, February 25, 2018 in his home in Moorhead, MN.

John F. Manney was born on June 20, 1936, in Morris, MN, to Frank and Lola (Hays) Manney. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Morris High School in 1955.

John married Maryann Sutter on February 1, 1958, at Morris where they made their home and farmed. They moved to Albert Lea in 1966 where he managed a Quik Stop drive-inn restaurant. In 1968, they moved to Bemidji and he managed the Quik Stop drive-inn there until 1973 when they moved to Moorhead and John managed the Highway Host in Moorhead. In 1980 he started his own business, Manney’s Mobile Lunch, which he operated until selling and retiring in 2002. John and Maryann had just celebrated sixty years of marriage.

John was a huge Moorhead Spuds Hockey fan. He was often invited to ride the parents bus to out of town Spud games long after his children graduated. He loved his dogs Chino and Java and loved being with his children and grandchildren. His lawn was his pride and joy.

John is survived by his wife, Maryann; children Mark (Mary), Andover, MN, Mary (Kevin) Meyer, Fargo, ND, John Jr. (Carrie), Monument, CO, Jim (Amanda McDonald), West Fargo, ND, Jennifer (Robert) Salo, Moorhead, MN, and Julie Manney, Fargo, ND; grandchildren Jason, Steve, Brian, Alex, Devon, Skyler, Morgan, Nick, Lauren, Andrew, Kelly, Mike, Katie, and Tyler; Seven great-grandchildren; sisters Colleen Rentz, Morris, MN, Jane Watzke, Scottsdale, AZ, and Dorothy Pasch, Red Wing, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Mike; and his brother William.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Moorhead Youth Hockey.

Memorial Mass: Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN. Friends may gather for one hour prior to the service.

Interment: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
