John Peter Pete Dosland, 82, Fargo, ND, died Monday, October 7, 2013, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
John Peter was born December 8, 1930 to Goodwin and Beatrice Buehler Dosland, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up and graduated from high school in Chicago, and went on to attend Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN. After graduating from MSU, Pete entered the Navy and served as a Lieutenant J.G. on the carrier U.S.S. Block Island during the Korean War. Following his military service, Pete attended the School of Law at the University of Minnesota. Upon graduation, Pete returned to the Fargo-Moorhead area and joined his father’s law firm. He continued to practice law for over fifty years. During his career, Pete had the honor of arguing cases before the Supreme Courts of Minnesota, North Dakota and the United States. In retirement, he generously volunteered at Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota.
Pete always considered July 4, 1970 as his birthday–the date he achieved sobriety.
Family was very important to Pete. He was also passionate about history, travel, and aviation. Pete visited Southeast Asia, Russia, China and Europe.
Pete is survived by his wife, Arlis A. McCauley, Fargo, ND; and his children: Victoria Dosland Robert Ramsett, Horace, ND; Michael Dosland Carolyn, Cedarburg, WI; Catherine Dosland Mara John, Burnsville, MN; Roc Dosland Randa Law, Eugene, OR; Jacqueline Williams Kenneth, Savage, MN; Robert Dosland, San Diego, CA; Valerie Dosland Kevin Perala, Eagan, MN; Joanne Dosland, Burnsville, MN; Timothy Flick Anita, Moorhead, MN; Peggy Egan Phil Gainesville, GA; Scott Flick, Minneapolis, MN; Randall Flick Loree, Rochester, MN; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Bill Dosland and a grandson, Andrew Allen.
Visitation: Friday, October 11, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Funeral: Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 10:00 A.M., in Gethsemane Episcopal Cathedral, Fargo, ND.
Final Resting Place: The Columbarium at Gethsemane Cathedral
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Great Plains Food Bank or the YWCA Women’s Shelter located on South University Dr. Fargo, ND.
