Joyce Marie Burnside

Joyce Marie (Sather) Burnside, 71, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018, in Essentia Health Hospital, Fargo, ND. Joyce was born on November 6, 1946 to Magnus and Lila (Herzog) Sather in Moorhead, MN.

Joyce graduated from Ulen High School in 1964. She married Duane Burnside on January 11, 1969 in Ulen, MN. They resided in Glyndon where they raised their three children. After her children graduated from high school, she moved to Nimrod, MN where she worked at RDO Lamb-Weston, retiring in 2012. In 2014, Joyce moved to Hawley, MN where she was blessed to have lived the last four years with her best friend and sister, Donna.

Joyce was an avid bowler and loved bowling with her sisters and her mother in women’s league. She also enjoyed playing bingo and Scrabble.

Joyce was proud of having been her father’s “little farm girl.”

Joyce is survived by her children, Corey (Pam) Burnside, Brady (Jennifer) Burnside, and Adam (Michelle) Burnside; grandchildren, Allie (Alex) Jenson, Jarod Burnside, Lily Burnside, Sophie Burnside, Grace Burnside, Quinn Burnside, and Jacob Cabbage; great-grandchild, Josie Jo Jenson; siblings, Donna Burnside, Marce (Roland) Bentley, and Bob (Sherrie) Sather; step-siblings, David Herzog, Robert Herzog, Shelly Lunder, and Lorna Berry; companion of 30 years, Keith Gunderson; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Magnus and Lila, and stepfather, Carl Herzog.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, at 11:00AM, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial of ashes will be at Keene Cemetery, Rural Ulen, following the service.
