Judith was born October 29, 1939. Her early years and elementary schooling was in rural Kindred, ND, and Pleasant Township, Hickson, ND. She completed her middle school years in Fargo, graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1959. She then graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in mathematics and later obtained her art education degree from Moorhead State University.Judy taught art at Stevens Point, WI, for many years. She later returned to Fargo and worked at American Crystal Sugar, working in research and greenhouse. Judy took an early retirement and started doing the things she always wanted to do – her art paintings and became a Master Gardener. A born naturalist, she actively enjoyed gardening. She and her long-time companion converted a grain bin on Tamarac Refuge into a nature get-away and spent many years and hard work doing so. She thoroughly loved that spot after years of hard work.Judy is survived by her long-time companion and best friend, Dick Beckett; brother, Thomas Shirley Gilbertson of White Bear Lake, MN; sister, Margaret Dunham of Fargo, ND; nieces, Jane Ann Foster of Fargo, ND, and Barbara Nelson of La Pointe, WI.She will be welcomed into heaven by her parents, Walter and Charlotte Schmitz Gilbertson.
