June E. Bailey

June E. Bailey, age 98, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.

June Elaine Marks was born on November 28, 1921 in Moorhead to Leo and Clara (Aggerholm) Marks. In her teenage years, June worked at her father’s businesses doing various jobs, including painting advertisements on the windows. She graduated from Moorhead High School and furthered her education at Concordia, receiving a Bachelor of Mathematics degree.  She taught math classes for Moorhead High School for a few years. June married Gordon Bailey in 1944 and became a military wife and traveled the country with him as they started their family. They lived in California, Washington D.C., Virginia, Florida, Hawaii, and Washington before moving back to Moorhead.  Gordon passed away in 1975. June married Carl Bailey in 1976. June and Carl enjoyed retirement together and kept busy with improving their home, traveling, and being involved with activities at Concordia College, including painting the Concordia Christmas murals. Carl passed away in 2012. June moved to Eventide in 2016.

June was a wonderful cook, especially her apple pies. June was a church choir director in Ridgecrest, CA for a few years and later in San Diego, CA for many years. She also was a member of the Good Shepherd choir in Moorhead. She enjoyed being involved with Concordia activities, especially going to basketball and football games, and spending time with her family.

June is survived by her daughters, Judi (Greg) Brown, Kathy Solberg, Beth (Jon) McIntyre, and Penny (Ron) Baisley; son, Tom (Dora) Christianson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gordon Bailey and Carl Bailey; son, Christopher Bailey; grandson, Matthew Brown; sisters, Dorothy Christianson, Bernice Christenson, and Inez Scott; and brother, Robert Marks.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 9 at 11:00 A.M., with a visitation starting one hour before, at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead. June’s final resting place will be at The Good Shepherd Columbarium, Moorhead.
