Karen was born on May 5, 1943, to Edor and Edna Ypparila Johnson in Oakland, CA. She grew up in Slayton, MN and later in Newell, SD, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD, with a degree in teaching. She married Michael Lundberg on June 3, 1987.Karen taught in Sioux City, IA, Carson City, NV and Vermillion, SD, before moving to Fargo, ND in 1972. She worked at North Dakota State University and Blue Cross Blue Shield for a time before taking a job at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Karen held several position at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center and was recognized for her service to the Veterans. In 1984, Karen received the Disabled American Veteran Outstanding VA Employee Award from the North Dakota American Veterans. In 2001, Karen was again recognized for her work and was named Civil Servant of the Year by the Federal Executive Association of the Fargo-Moorhead area.Karen enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles, music and baseball. One of her great passions was garage sales. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.Karen is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Erika Shane Serquina of Erie, ND, and Darrin Register of Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Lili Serquina; sister, Ellie Gene Potts of Windsor, CO; mother-in-law, Maxine Lundberg of Moorhead, MN; sister-in-law, Virginia Thomas Leverson of Fargo, ND; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.Karen was preceded in death by her parents.
