Karen S. Gundersen

Karen S. Gundersen, 72 of Fergus Falls, MN passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Karen was born in Chicago, IL on July 15, 1952, to William and Dolores (Zasada) Gundersen. She grew up in Itasca, IL where she met and married Douglas Hall. They moved to Henning, MN and bought a hobby farm. They lived off the land and raised dairy cows, pigs, and various other farm animals. They had a large piece of land where they grew crops and various vegetables. Karen and Doug later divorced. 

Karen later married Ronny Zillmer and they moved to Fergus Falls, MN. Karen worked for Ottertail Coaches and drove bus for the area schools in the morning and afternoons. During the day she worked as a bookkeeper and receptionist at Cenex Harvest States. 

Karen loved spending time at the family cabin on Clitherall Lake. She also enjoyed horses and cross-country skiing. Karen was a proud Norwegian and active with the Sons of Norway. She was also an accomplished artist and did numerous Rosemaling projects for various people and organizations. In her later years her grandchildren were her world. 

Karen is survived by her sons, Devin (Tina) Hall, Collin Gundersen, and Brandon Gundersen; grandchildren, Hunter, Haiden, Hudsen, Haakon, Laykkin, and Ronan; and siblings, Sharon (Tom) Lippner, Kristi Oakes, William (Deborah) Gundersen, and Paul (Marlene) Gundersen. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of Karen's life will be held at a later date.
