Karen E. Hanson

Karen Emalyn (Nelson) Hanson, 80, of Moorhead, MN passed away on October 23, 2023. Karen was born on December 16, 1942. She was one of eleven children born to Maynard and Tilla (Teigen) Nelson near Turtle Lake, south of Lake Park, Minnesota. Karen grew up on a farm and later moved to Audubon, MN where she graduated from High School.

After high school she went to Josef’s School of Hair. She worked at Sears Beauty Shop and Grand Barber and Beauty World in Fargo. She then worked for many years at Sunmart Foods in Moorhead. She married Curtis Hanson on October 8, 1965. Together they had two daughters.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters Marjorie Johnson, Maxine Grani, Jeannette Biewer, Rudella Wermager, Denise Erickson, and a brother, Lyle Nelson.

Karen is survived by her husband, Curtis, daughters Darla (Todd) Mattson, and Dana (Chad) Rieth, and four grandchildren: Benjamin Mattson, Ellen Mattson, Jenna Rieth, and Jacob Rieth. She is also survived by siblings Jessie Ulrich, Clayton Nelson, Connie (Max) Baer, John (Patty) Nelson, and several nieces and nephews.

Karen’s favorite activities included travelling, having coffee with many friends and neighbors, and playing bingo.

Services will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.  Interment will be at Lake Park Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Park, MN.
