Karen M. Susag, 70, of Hawley, MN, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, in her home.
Karen Marie Hanson was born June 30, 1945, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Lars and Berneice Peterson Hanson. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1963 and moved to Minneapolis. On February 14, 1965 she married Glen Susag in Erhard, MN, and they made their home in Topeka, KS while Glen was stationed there. Their two daughters were born in KS and the family returned to MN in 1969. They lived in Pelican Rapids and Moorhead before moving to Hawley in 1975. Karen then spent the next 33 years working as a CNA at Hawley Manor, retiring in 2008.
Karen loved spending time at their lake cabin and campground, hunting and fishing, playing games on her Kindle, and bowling. For 30 years she served as the secretary/treasurer of the local bowling league. She enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings over the years, and attending the many activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all, she loved just spending time with her family.
Karen is survived by her husband, Glen; her daughters, Brenda Larry Tofstad, Fosston, MN, and Dawna Matt Schoborg, St. Cloud, MN; her brothers, Leonard Marlene Hanson and Dennis Barb Hanson; her sister, Kathy Mike Drewelow; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
