Katherine Louise Nelson

Katherine “Kathy” L. Malakowsky Nelson was born on November 11, 1950. Kathy passed away unexpectedly on April 1, 2017 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND, at the age of 66. She will be so greatly missed by all her family and friends. She always had a smile or laugh to brighten the day.

Kathy grew up attending both elementary and high school in Hawley, MN, graduating in 1968. Kathy married Henry “Hank” Nelson on September 18, 1971. Kathy and Hank greatly enjoyed spending time with their friends and family, playing cards, snowmobiling and holiday get-togethers. They purchased a home outside of Hawley shortly thereafter and raised two wonderful sons. Kathy stayed at home for a few years to take care of the boys, garden and of course, cook her wonderful meals.

Kathy then went on to work at MeritCare, both in food service and patient transport, Dairy Queen, Sodexho at MSUM and also volunteered at REACH. Any time she had to spare, she always spent watching over her family, especially her granddaughters. Aside from all that, she was an avid animal lover, no matter what, she was a true caregiver.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marjorie Malakowsky, her husband, Henry Nelson, daughter, Jeanette Nelson and sister, Barb Crowell.

She is survived by her sons Trevor Nelson, Fargo, ND, and Jeffrey Annette Nelson, Hawley, MN; granddaughters, Hailey and Vaida Nelson, Hawley, MN; sisters Jean Iverson, Hawley, MN, and Mary Ellen Maurice Martin, Janesville, WI; brother, Steve Kim Malakowsky, Hawley, MN.
