Kathy "Kate" Ann Steinke

Kathy “Kate” Ann (Van Robays) Steinke, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on January 31st, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. Kathy was born October 30th, 1956 to Vern and Joyce Van Robays and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. She received her nursing degree at South Dakota State University and master’s degree in nursing from the University of Arizona. She married Emil Steinke on July 8th, 1983, and enjoyed a long, beautiful marriage. Her 40-plus year career as a nurse and nurse educator led to her touching the lives of countless people in her community. Kathy had a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. She loved spending time at the lake cabin with family, especially her grandchildren. Kathy was deeply involved in the St. Joseph Catholic Church and found comfort in her strong faith throughout her life and illness. She donated her time and talents to numerous charities.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Emil, 3 children: Van Steinke of Sabin, MN; Claire (Kyle) Danner of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Hope (Brandon) Meyer of Moorhead, MN, and one bonus daughter Kimberly (Mike) Williams of Cambridge, MN; 6 grandchildren: Hannah Steinke; Layla, Elouise, and Jack Danner; and Violet and Wesley Meyer; sister Karen (Dan) Swanda; brother Tom (Louise) Van Robays; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carolyn Fowler.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Churches United or Meals on Wheels, which were both favorite organizations of Kathy.

Visitation: Friday, February 9, 2024. 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead. 

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Moorhead. 

Interment: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
