Kay A. Schindler

Kay Anita Schindler of Moorhead, Minnesota passed away peacefully at her home September 25, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 62. Kay was born in Jamestown, ND, May 3, 1950 to Harold and Dorothy Kobler. She grew up in Edgeley, ND and graduated from Edgeley High School in 1968. Kay attended UND and graduated in 1972 with a B.S. in Education. In 1974 she earned a Master's degree in education with an emphasis in Reading and Special Education. While Kay was at UND she met her husband of 41 years, Douglas Schindler. They were married on January 2, 1971 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Edgeley, ND.Doug and Kay moved to Mandan, ND where she was a teacher for 13 years. During this time, their son Jay was born in 1976 and their son Kent was born in 1981. In 1988 they moved to Moorhead, MN where she taught in the Moorhead School District until retiring in June 2011. Kay's passion in life was and always will be teaching. Although she retired from teaching, she continued to be involved in educating the next generation of teachers through her work with both Southwest Minnesota State University and Moorhead State University. Doug and Kay raised two wonderful, talented sons who graduated from Moorhead High School. Kay was very involved with her sons' activities while they were growing up. She spent countless hours supporting them and was always the loudest cheerleader in the bleachers. In addition to teaching, Kay enjoyed movies, plays, reading and traveling. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd. She adored her grandchildren Kendall and Cole. A mention of her grandchildren would produce the biggest smile. Kay was also looking forward to adding another daughter to the family this coming April at the wedding of her son Kent and his fiancée Kristin Colón. We know she will be with us in spirit on their wedding day.Kay was preceded in death by her father, Harold Kobler. Kay is survived by her parents, Melvin and Dorothy Bork of Moorhead, MN, her husband Douglas Schindler of Moorhead, MN, her son Jay Schindler and his wife Erin and two grandchildren, Kendall and Cole, and son Kent Schindler, all of Maple Grove, MN.Memorials will be given to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
