Keith Allen Larson, 84, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Saturday, May 18th at Sanford Medical Center. Keith was born on October 31, 1934 on the Larson Farm, rural Hawley, to Oscar and Aquina (Halvorson) Larson. He attended Hawley High School and joined the US Army in 1954 where he served in Japan until he was honorably discharged in 1956. Keith married Kay Meyer on July 19th, 1958 at Hawley Lutheran Church.
Keith was an owner/operator of gravel and milk trucks and managed Silver Lake Co-op throughout his career. His membership at Hawley Lutheran Church was very important to him as he served on various committees throughout the years. Keith was an active member of the Hawley Rodeo from its inception serving as chairman and on various committees for over 50 years. In 2014 he was given an award by the Rodeo Committee in appreciation for his many years of commitment to the Hawley Rodeo. Keith was a key organizer of the Stablemates 4-H club and founding member of the Hawley Golden Riders saddle club. Keith enjoyed helping young people with their horse projects. Keith was awarded the Hawley Businessman Award in 1989. Keith served as President and as a board member of Silver Lake Cemetery. During his retirement he spent many years assisting at the Wright Funeral Home. Keith was a very social person and loved spending time with family and friends. He was quick to help whenever needed and known as someone that can be counted on.
Keith is survived by his wife Kay, son Kevin (Pam) Larson and daughter Karen (Jeff) Colbenson; grandchildren Daniel (Monica) Larson, Kayla Larson, Austin Pray, Ben (Brittney) Colbenson, Lucas (Megan) Colbenson, Kelsey Colbenson, and great grandsons Hawken Larson and Boden Colbenson; brothers Neil (Lois) Larson and Kermit Larson; sisters Charlene (Duane) Romer, Sharon McDougall, and June (Russell) Burnside. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry, Wayne, Lowell, and Roger, brother-in-law Wally McDougall, and sister-in-law Sharon Larson.
Visitation is on Wednesday, May 22nd, 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Hawley Lutheran Church. Visitation continues Thursday, May 23rd, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery.
