Keith M. Stensgaard

Keith Stensgaard, 62, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, October 24, 2010, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Keith was born February 2, 1948, in Moorhead, MN, to Selmer and Ebba Wangen Stensgaard. He grew up in Hawley, was confirmed at Hawley Lutheran and graduated from high school in 1966. After high school he continued his education at Moorhead State University. He then worked at Twin City Construction for a short time before he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Keith served his country during the Vietnam War, where he was injured twice in the line of duty. He was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star for his service. After serving in the Army, he moved back to the area and worked for Gene Hill Construction for a time before starting his own construction company. He later became a financial planner with IDS Financial Services for 13 years. Keith was an avid hunter who took pride in hunting with his great-grandfather's musket. He was successful in hunting bear, deer and elk. He also loved fishing and spending time traveling on his motorcycle. He took many trips across the U.S. and enjoyed the time on the road.Keith is survived by sons, Adam Melissa Stensgaard, Moorhead, MN, Mike Stensgaard, Moorhead, MN; mother, Ebba Stensgaard, Hawley, MN, sister, Cheryl Loren Cavalier, Perham, MN; and many close nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Selmer.
