Kenneth L. Ekre

Kenneth L. Ekre, 84, of Hawley, MN, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in Hawley Senior Living, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Kenneth Leroy Ekre was born on July 30, 1930 in Hawley, MN, to Carl and Gina Jore Ekre. He was baptized and confirmed at Hegland Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. On December 10, 1949, he married Janice Giere in Hawley Lutheran Church. Kenneth worked at T.F. Powers Construction for 41 years and farmed evenings and weekends. He enjoyed bowling at Hawley Lanes for many years. He also enjoyed the outdoors by hunting at the deer shack with close friends for many years. Ice fishing was also a fun time for Ken and his sons at area lakes.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The kids always enjoyed the golf cart rides, tractor rides and helping at WMSTR in the horse area with his horses.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice, Hawley; two sons, Ronald Linda of Hawley, Stephen Deborah of Hawley; six grandchildren, Emily Brent Helgeson, Ivy Barrett Boe, Jeremy, Melinda, Calley Ernie Rosado, Jennifer Ekre Dan Harris; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon Carol Ekre of Hawley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jana Marie who died in infancy, one brother Clayton Ekre and eight sisters, Hazel Peterson, Opal Swenson, Gladys Beilke, Doris Olsen, Esther Johnson, Grace Kleven, Bernice Ekre and baby Ivy.

Visitation: Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.

Funeral: Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Hegland Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN.

Interment: Hegland Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hawley, MN.
