Kenneth M. “Ken” Swenson

Kenneth M. Swenson, 83, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2019 at Eventide in Moorhead, MN.

Kenneth Moore Swenson was born on March 10, 1936 in Woodville, Wisconsin to Kenneth and Rubye (Moore) Swenson, where he grew up and he graduated from high school in 1954. His family then moved to Moorhead Minnesota where he was a resident for 65 years. He attended college at NDSU and MSUM.

While attending MSUM, Ken was an active member of the Owl fraternity. It was at MSUM that he also met his future wife Ruth Kjono. They were married in Rothsay, Minnesota on August 9, 1960. They had a daughter, Anne Marie.

He enjoyed a long and rewarding career as an Engineer for the City of Moorhead Engineering Department. He also served his country as a long-time member of the Air National Guard.

He had many interests and hobbies including cross-country skiing bicycling, wood carving, boat restoration, fishing and hunting. He also had a deep love for his animal companions over the years. His passion in his retirement was helping others and participated as an active member in the Lions, the Eagles, the Elks and the Valley Vintage Car Club. Volunteering at the FM Food Pantry, the Sons of Norway and the Fargo Air Museum. He also served on the Board of Community homes of Fargo. Ken was an active member and volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.

Ken and Ruth were married almost 60 years, enjoying time at their MN lake home in Ottertail County with family and friends.

Ken is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Anne (Jim) Hagensen, Mapleton, ND; three nieces; a nephew and many cousins.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Fern Carole Eide, two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and many aunts and uncles.

Ken was a wonderful spouse, a devoted father and a dear friend to many. His kindness and generosity will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Our family wants to thank all the friends, neighbors and family that supported Ken and made his last days very special.

Ken’s life will be honored with a service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Christian Life Center, Moorhead, MN, with visitation beginning at 10:30 am.

A private family burial will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
