Kent Edward Nord

Kent Edward Nord, age 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo.

Kent was born March 1, 1931, to Alfred and Isabel (Walsh) Nord. He grew up on a farm near Enderlin, ND, and started out with jobs delivering oil and working for the railroad, before going on to earn degrees from North Dakota School of Science, Valley City State, and Bemidji State.

He taught for one year in Oregon before moving to Montevideo, MN, where he met fellow teacher Mary Ann Riedman. They married in 1968 and moved to Moorhead and had three children, Teresa, Jason, and Brenda. He taught at Moorhead High School and became active in the St. Joseph Catholic parish and Knights of Columbus.

In addition to teaching, Kent was a long-time crop adjuster. He moved on from teaching to pursue a variety of sales and business ventures ranging from gas equipment sales, generator sales, map distribution, computer portraits, and vending machines.

Kent enjoyed spending time with family, watching local sports teams, listening to Twins games, playing cards, and playfully grousing about how “ornery, owly, and crabby” he was.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Blythe, Mavis, Bud, James, and Jerome. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children; son-in-law, Paul Paikowski; and granddaughters, Emily Anne Nord and Paige Paikowski.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., followed by the Wake Service and Rosary at 6:00 P.M., Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 28, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN. Final resting place will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, following the service at the church.
