Kerman R. Alm

Kerman Robert Alm, 87, passed away on Friday, January 8 at Arbor Park Assisted Living, Moorhead while under Hospice care.

Born Aug. 3, 1928, on the Christine, ND farm to Axel and Ethel Foss Alm. Kerman attended Christine High School. After surviving a bout of spinal meningitis and later a ruptured appendix that was not diagnosed for several days during school, Kerman graduated school, and continued to help out on the family farm.

Kerman married Janice Mary McCurdy on June 7, 1959 at the Christine Lutheran Church. They soon went on to make their home in Moorhead, where they have lived ever since.

Work involved being a parts runner in 1952 to 1953 for Service Chevrolet, and going on to work in the warehouse for Maytag Company for the next ten years. In 1962, Kerman became a technician at NDSU for the Agronomy Department, and moved into being a technician for USDA Plant Pathology in 1969 which was also at NDSU. He enjoyed working along side various professionals as well as student help for the next 35 years until his retirement in December of 1995. Retirement allowed Kerman to spend more time to enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of growing his vegetable gardens and working in the yard.

Kerman was not a world traveler, but enjoyed his time on several smaller adventures and hobbies throughout his life. He traveled to Canada’s Reed Lake several springs, where he looked forward to fishing with four friends from work. In the fall he enjoyed deer hunting with three long time friends and later with his son, Jason. Kerman and Janice spent much of their summer time at Meadow Family Campground in Detroit Lakes.

“Boppa” was a name he loved to hear from all 5 of his grandchildren, and a badge he wore proudly. He was always pleased to see and spend time with the grandkids whether it involved babysitting, going to games, birthday parties and or hunting.

He is preceded in death by his parents Axel and Ethel Foss Alm, and two brothers Harvey Alm, and Julian Alm of Christine, ND.

Kerman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice; their two children, Jason Andrea Alm, and Carmen Curt Hutchins; five grandchildren, Spencer Muchow-Alm, Tyler Alm, Hailey Alm, Danielle Hutchins, and Regan Hutchins. Two great grandchildren are expected to be born any day now.

Visitation: Wednesday, January 13, from noon – 2:00 p.m., in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Wednesday, January 13, at 2:00 p.m., in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Burial will be held at later time with a small family memorial service.
