Kurt E. Gigstad

Kurt Errol Gigstad, 58, died unexpectedly on October 17, 2007, at Meritcare Hospital. Kurt was born July 11, 1949, in Winona, MN, to Marian and Klemens Gigstad. Kurt graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN, in 1967. He graduated from Southwest State University in Marshall, MN, with a BA in social studies. On June 16, 1973 he married Susan Kleinvachter in Thief River Falls, MN. Kurt and his family resided in Minneota, MN, for 15 years during which time he taught at Clarkfield, MN. The family moved to Fargo in 1989 and for the last 15 years, Kurt has taught at Moorhead High School in Moorhead, Minnesota. Kurt coached high school baseball in MN and Fargo Legion baseball for a total of 25 years.Kurt's lifelong interests were his family, teaching, coaching baseball, playing softball, restoring cars, and his recent venture into kayaking. His granddaughter was the apple of his eye. Kurt's kindness and compassionate manner toward his students will never be forgotten. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Kurt is survived by his wife Susan; sons Kristopher of Minneapolis and Grant Erin and granddaughter Aniston of Fargo; his mother Marian of Thief River Falls, MN; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
