Larry Gene Borowicz, 73, of Maple Grove, MN, formerly of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at North Memorial Health Hospital, in Robbinsdale, MN, after a year long, hard fought battle with cancer.
Larry was born on November 25, 1949, the oldest of four sons, to August and Mary (Donarski) Borowicz, in Warren, MN. He grew up in Argyle, MN, where he attended and graduated from Argyle High School in 1967. He then attended Thief River VoTech for one year before being drafted into the military. He served his country in Vietnam with the United States Army. He trained in Okinawa before serving in Vietnam as a Sentry Dog Handler for the Military Police Branch with his two dogs, Rusty and Rebel.
After he returned, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Wanda Kappes on October 9, 1971, in Ada, MN. He worked at Lavelle Lumber in Fargo, ND, prior to working for Midwest Motor Express as a customer service worker in the overage, shortage, and damage department. After his time with Midwest, he began his work with Thompson Brothers Trucking, and then to Berg Grain and Produce where he worked as a dispatcher for 23 years until his retirement. Larry and Wanda moved to Maple Grove, MN, where they built a beautiful home with their daughter and have lived there since 2018.
Larry enjoyed hunting, campfires, pontoon rides, and playing cards with friends, family, and anyone willing to play. He and Wanda enjoyed 36 years at Wee Villa Resort near Fergus Falls, MN, during their summers. Larry was a jack of all trades, he built their 1st home in Moorhead, he built a gazebo for their yard, he tended often to the trees and grass in his yard, and constantly worked on various things around the house to keep himself busy. It was so hard for him to sit still that he had a “honey” and “daddy” do list that he loved to check off on. He was an active member at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN, sharing his time as a hospitality minister, Eucharistic minister, sponsoring engaged couples during their marriage prep, and absolutely loved working on the Monday morning cleaning crew.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Wanda; children, Chad (Melissa) Borowicz and Shari Borowicz; grandson, Aidan Borowicz; brother, Elroy (Karey) Borowicz; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, August and Mary; and brothers, Roger and Michael Borowicz.
