Larry E. Schons

Larry E. Schons, 87, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Eventide on 8th, Moorhead, MN. Larry was born March 3, 1929, in Sleepy Eye, MN. He grew up on their family farms in Minnesota and North Dakota before moving to Fargo in 1938. He married Patricia Knudson on May 12, 1949. Together they had seven children. He worked at Holsom Bakery until 1957. He then started with the City of Moorhead’s Fire Department and later achieved the rank of Assistant Fire Chief before retiring in 1985. After the children were grown, Larry and Pat traveled all over North America. They especially liked visiting family and Glacier Park. They spent their winters in Texas. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf with friends, but most of all loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Larry is survived by his children, Kathy Ollestad, Gonvick, MN, Tom Karen Schons, Moorhead, MN, Jack Terry Schons, Clifton, CO, David Kathy Schons, Maple Grove, MN, Diane Dalton, Fargo, ND, and Sue Baumgartner, Madison Heights, VA; sister, Carol Don Johnson; sisters-in-law, Irene Schons and Bev Schons; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; son, Tim; brothers, John and Jerry; and sisters, Martha and Jeanne.

Visitation: Wednesday, June 1, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7 p.m., in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Thursday, June 2, at 11:00 a.m., in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
