Laverne D. Rowlett

Laverne Doris Johnk Rowlett, 90, of Moorhead, MN passed away quietly on December 26, 2011 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. Laverne was born on June 12, 1921 in Sabin, MN to Maude Johnk Lobitz and Arthur Johnk. She attended Sabin grade school and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1939. After graduation she lived in St. Paul, MN until 1942 when she moved to Denver, CO and worked at the Remington Arms Facility. On December 23, 1943 she married Norbert G. Rowlett of Chicago, IL. Norbert was in the United States Air Force at McCarran Air Force base. After the end of World War II they moved to Chicago where they lived until 1954. They then moved to Millbrae and El Cerrito, CA where they managed motels and mobile home parks. In 1960 they returned to Sabin, MN where Norbert died on February 17, 1961. In January 1964 Laverne became office manager at the Fargo Nursing Home now Rosewood on Broadway. She retired in January 1988. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin. Laverne and Norbert had one son, Kenneth N. Rowlett, born December 28, 1946. He died on September 16, 1971 after serving in the United States Army in Germany and Vietnam. Laverne is survived by her granddaughter, Christy Luettger; great-grandson, Kyle Delphey; brother, Kenneth Johnk; sister, June Beck; sister-in-law, Susy Johnk; nieces, Betty Graf, Ava Riewer, Debra Beck, Diana Lockard and Bonnie Zavanna; and nephews, Gordon and Jim Johnk. Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert Rowlett; son, Kenneth Rowlett; and brothers, Donald and Roy Johnk.
