LaVonne Akers, 78, of Glyndon, MN, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, after a courageous battle with cancer. LaVonne was born March 4, 1934, to John and Florence Hawley Baumgartner in Rothsay, MN, where she grew up and attended school. After graduating from high school, she continued her education in Valley City where she received her Teaching Certificate. LaVonne taught in country schools for a few years before working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber and later at Northwestern Bell in Fargo. She married Virgil Akers at First Lutheran Church in Fargo in 1964, and together they made their home north of Glyndon, MN. They farmed and LaVonne stayed at home and took care of the family. She enjoyed living on the farm and remained there until moving to Fargo in January of 2012. LaVonne enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning and sewing, but most of all loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed. LaVonne is survived by her sons, Scott Angie of Fargo, ND, Kyle Denice of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Lauren, Preston and Amelia Akers, Erika, Britany, Joseph, Jaryd and Addisyn Akers. She is also survived by sisters, Marilyn Ostland, Darlene Gustman; and brothers, Merle Marie Baumgartner and Donald Baumgartner.She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; and her parents.
