Leona May Irion

Leona May Irion (Lee), age 74, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 18, 2024. After years of battling Alzheimer’s Disease, Lee is finally home with Jesus.

Lee was born May 27, 1950, in Ashley, ND. She became an RN in 1972, graduating from St. Luke’s Nursing School in Fargo, ND. 

Lee accepted Jesus as her Savior in 1971 and passed on a legacy of faith to her family through her unwavering love of the Lord. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, baking for them, reading them stories, and sharing Jesus with them. She almost always had Elisabeth Elliot playing in the background at home or in her car. Her years with Alzheimer’s were made brighter by her constant laughter, singing, and dancing which were a gift to anyone who spent time with her. 

Lee is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Gary, who cared for her the last 7 years of her life, her sons Ryan Irion (Laura), Neal Irion (Tammy), and daughter Mary Wilmar (Dennis), her grandchildren Isaiah, Eva, Canden, Joshua, Emily, Jonathan, Leah, Owen, Luke and Abby. She is also survived by her sister Rose Haas (LeRoy) and brother-in-law Rev. Donald Auclair. She was preceded in death by her sister Ella, her parents Mary and Gustov Schaeffer, and in-laws Ida and Elledhor Irion.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation for one hour before the service, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
