Leona Jacobsen

Leona Jacobsen, 81, of Moorhead, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Eventide Senior Living.
Leona Josephine Baker was born April 10, 1935 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Henry and Carrie Poppenga Baker. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1953. While in school she met the love of her life, Wayne Jacobsen, and they were married in Moorhead on August 6, 1953. They made their home in Moorhead where together they raised their two children.
Over the years Leona worked for J.J. Newberry’s department store and Ben Franklin, and she did foster care for Clay County for many years, providing loving care for at least 21 children. She loved gardening, ceramics, crocheting, knitting, bowling, bingo and going to the casino.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wayne; her son, Richard Patricia Jacobsen, Fargo; her daughter, Debra Tim Wolf, Reile’s Acres, ND; her sister, Linda Baker Ward, Mission, TX; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Lawrence and Norman, and her sisters, Mary-Ann, Carol, Charlotte, and Ruth.
