Leonard Andring, 90, of Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, November 28, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
Len was born on Jun 3, 1928 at a farm home in Waukon Township, (Gary, MN). He was the second oldest son of eleven born to Raymond and Gertrude (Martin) Andring.
Len attended Grade School in District #71, a one room “Cheerful School” house. He graduated from High School in 1944, at Mahnomen, MN. After High School, Len attended Dunwoody Technical Institute and NW Vocational Technical School, both in Minneapolis.
Len worked on the family farm until 1950 and then served in the US Army for two years. He worked as a Television Sales and Service Technician for Rigel’s Appliance in Moorhead and Fargo for over 20 years where he provided excellent services and met many people who remained friends forever. He then took a position as the Technical Service Trainer for F.C. Hayer Co. in Fargo from 1974 through 1989 where he was able to share his excellent skills with others in the industry. With his passion for the business Len then worked as an Electronic Service Technician for Akins Electric in Moorhead from 1990 to 1995 and finished his career with Mitchell’s TV in 1998.
Len married Joanne Belshan on June 26, 1954 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Mahnomen, MN. Len and Joanne made their home in Moorhead for 64 years.
Len was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead. He served as Church Treasurer and President of the School Board. Len and Joanne volunteered many hours in various areas for both the church and the school and taught his family the importance of having a strong faith and being involved in the church.
In his spare time, Len enjoyed woodworking, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, playing pinochle and shooting a good game of pool. Len was also a self-taught expert at fixing cars, plumbing, electrical and carpentry among others. He also loved helping his brother Dick on the farm when given the opportunity. Len wore many hats and was so good at so many things.
Most of all he treasured his 64 years with Joanne and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He left behind a legacy that will survive multiple generations and will be remembered forever.
Len is survived by his wife Joanne and six children: Kathy (Robert) Dablow, Pam (Tod) Wells, Mike, Doug (Marti), Julie (Bob) McGoldrick and Jill (Tom) Chiarelli; and 12 grandchildren: Chris Dablow, Nick (Mandy) Dablow, Richard (Kristie) Dablow, Michael Garrett (Jennifer Schifsky), Desiree Garrett (Josh Haber). Joanne Fitzgerald, Rachel (Cody) Andring, Maggie Andring, Allison (Jordan) Furman, Tom Chiarelli, Joe Chiarelli and Greg Chiarelli along with 6 great-grandchildren.
Len is survived by two sisters, Claire Cook and Beverly (Virgil) Amsden and one brother, Richard (Darlene), and sister-in-law, Doreen Andring.
Len was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gertrude, brothers Arnold (Anne), Vernon (Ione), David and Bill and sisters Helen (Bill) Lindberg, Lucille (Raymond) Gish, and Mary (Gene) Moore; brother-in-law Jack Cook, son-in-law Tom Morgan, daughter-in-law Joyce Andring and Baby Boy Garrett.
Visitation and a prayer service will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN on Sunday, December 2nd beginning at 4:00 P.M. The prayer service will start at 6:00.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Monday, December 3rd, at 11:00 A.M. There will be lunch served in the St. Francis Community Center immediately following the service.
The Burial will take place at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, December 3rd at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Mahnomen, MN. The cemetery is located on the corner of 140th Avenue and 240th Street just south of Mahnomen. All are welcome to join the family.
