Leroy D. Anderson, age 73, of Lake Park, MN, formerly Moorhead, MN, died on May 24, 2017 of cancer.
Leroy Duane Anderson was born September 17, 1943, in Detroit Lakes, MN. The son of Carl N.E. and Lila Anderson Anderson. He was raised on the family farm north of Lake Park, MN, and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1961. Later attending Interstate Business College and Moorhead State University. Leroy became active in farming and was a past president of the Becker County Farm Bureau.
Leroy married Sharon Huseby on July 27, 1968. He joined the North Dakota Air Force National Guard and was a member for 12 years. During that time, Leroy moved to Moorhead and started a career with Farm Bureau Insurance. He started his own agency with the Farmers Insurance group of companies lasting 43 years, retiring in December of 2015.
Leroy was a long-time member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in South Moorhead. Leroy loved the lakes. The family spent summers at their lake cottage on Lake Ida for 24 years. He also loved hunting and fishing, spending time every fall at a hunting camp in northern Minnesota that he owned together with two longtime friends. Leroy was very close to his entire family and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. Leroy will be deeply missed by his loving family.
Leroy is survived by daughter, Debbie, husband Kurt Engquist; son, Kevin, wife Kim Rasmusson Anderson; grandchildren, Brittany, Chris, Grace and Mark; mother, Lila; brother, Lowell; nieces and nephews, and the second love of his life, Linda Borgen, from Dilworth, MN.
He is preceded in death by his father, wife Sharon of 42 years; nephew, Jon Anderson; sisters-in-law, Helen Anderson and Linda Huseby, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Leroy’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 11:00 AM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead, MN, with a visitation starting at 9:00 AM.
