Leroy J. Sly

LeRoy passed away on October 29, 2018 at the age of 93. He was residing at the MN Veterans Nursing Home – Minneapolis. He was born on May 6, 1925 to David and Elizabeth Sly of Enderlin, ND. LeRoy was an avid swimmer and baseball player. He was on the Enderlin American Legion baseball teams that won the 1940 and 1941 North Dakota State Championships. He was voted “All State Center Fielder” and later played semi-lot baseball. LeRoy graduated from Enderlin High School in 1943.

LeRoy served in the Merchant Marines and Navy during WWII. LeRoy married Shirley (Larson) in 1949 and resided in Dilworth. He enjoyed many activities including fishing, hunting and woodworking. LeRoy retired from the Northern Pacific/Burlington Northern as an engineer after 44 years of employment.

LeRoy is survived by his daughters, Lynda Young (Harry), Lambertville, NJ and Pauline Sly (James Borucki), Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Tara Benedetti, Matthew Benedetti, Sabrina Sly (John Conrad), Tessa Sly Borucki and Christine Sly-Huss (Rob Huss); great-grandchildren, Chase Conrad, Sophia Conrad, Colton James Conrad and Hudson Huss.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; sons, Gerald and James (Jimmy); granddaughter, Tiffany; and brothers, Harold, Mercer, Allen, Wilson, Robert and Richard.

Family and friends are welcome to LeRoy’s burial at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN on November 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
