LeRoy “Roy” Kenneth Tweten, 92, of Glyndon, MN, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Sanford Health’s Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born November 17, 1930, in Fargo, ND, to George and Otillia “Tilly” (Fuchs) Tweten. He attended school and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1950. Following graduation, Roy continued on his journey becoming a lifelong farmer. Roy married Marie (Christensen) on January 19, 1951, and together they made their home and started their family on the farm in Glyndon. Roy was deeply devoted to his family and friends, and his relationships and personal interactions with others meant the world to him. He was a very patient man, who had a steady, strong presence, and was known for greeting everyone with a firm handshake, smile or wink, or giving one of the best hugs. He will be remembered for the way he treated others and the love he had for his family.
Roy took pride in his work and loved farming. Even in retirement, he enjoyed helping others with their farm work and was especially grateful to Johnson Farms for their friendship and loyalty over generations of years. After putting his family first, Roy was involved in many other interests and activities. He was a very active member of the community where he volunteered for the Glyndon Fire Department for 30 years, was involved in the Rod and Gun Club and could be seen regularly with his early morning coffee buddies at the Highway Host and Fry’n Pan. When Roy wasn’t working on the farm or in a field, he enjoyed fishing and trips to Lake of the Woods, driving across the country visiting with many relatives and friends, and winters consisted of snowmobile trips and time spent in Arizona. Roy often reminisced about and so enjoyed the amazing summers spent with family and friends camping at Strawberry Lake. He was also an avid sports fan, watching and attending as many games as he could, including a trip to Superbowl IV in New Orleans in 1970, where his Vikings lost to Kansas City. In his later years, Roy loved supporting his grandchildren in all their events and never missed a chance to attend any of their activities.
Roy is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Marie; son, Wayne (Kelly) Tweten of Glyndon, MN; daughter, Lori (Jeff) Devier of Dilworth, MN & North Port, FL; son-in-law, Robert Knutson of Dilworth, MN; grandchildren, Sheri (Jim) Koch, Trent (Stacey) Knutson, Trisha (Rick) Keller, Carol (Greg) Wallsworth, Lindsey (LeeAnn) Tweten, Ally Devier and Graci Devier; great grandchildren, Brittney (John) Wychor, Brandon (Leah) Herbst, Benjamin Herbst, Ashley Knutson and Bryce Knutson, Micah Wallsworth and Izabella Tweten; great-great grandchildren, Elliot and Jackson Wychor, Taylan and Aiden Pixler, Kehlani Auerbach-Herbst, Mason Herbst and Kaia Herbst; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene (Betty) Christensen; sisters-in-laws Nora Tweten and Jean Tweten; and many other loving relatives and friends.
