Leslie V. Erickson, 87, of Moorhead, MN, died February 12, 2016 at Melody Care Home in Apache Junction, AZ under the care of Hospice.
Leslie was born November 27, 1928, in Hawley, MN, to Ed and Nellie Pick Erickson. He attended school in Hitterdal, MN, and graduated from Ulen High School in 1947. He farmed with his family. Leslie married Marcella Lee. He served as Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from January 1951 until 1953 in the First Field Artillery Observation Battalion. Following his military discharge, Leslie contracted polio which led to his mobility complications. Leslie married Clarice Noyes in July 1974.
He worked at American Crystal Sugar from 1967 until his retirement in 1991. Upon retirement they went south for the winter months and spent the last twenty-five years in Arizona.
Leslie was a member of the Legion and VFW. He was an avid reader, stamp collector, vegetable gardener, and enjoyed fishing and dancing. He enjoyed traveling and has visited all the states except Delaware, and all the Canadian Providences except Newfoundland. He also had been to Japan, Korea, Costa Rica and Mexico. In the last few years he joked that his John Deere mower was his best friend, as it got him around the yard.
He is survived by his wife, Clarice; children, John Donna Erickson, Sandra Ken Hennager, and Janette Larry Aalbers; brother, Forrest Erickson; step-children, Gary Lisa Noyes, Gail Rod Schober and Glen Kristie Noyes; grandchildren, John Lucy Erickson, Scott Allyson Erickson, Jeana David Stanley, Ronda Riley Meyer, Cheryl Helm, Tony Jamie Oss; step-grandchildren, Amanda Noyes, Justin Noyes, Christy Joe Dauer, Aaron Schober, Grace Noyes and Thomas Noyes; great-grandchildren, Johnny Erickson, Lucy Erickson, Marley Erickson, Miles Erickson, Connor Stanley, Hanna Stanley, Brooklyn Meyer, Aubrey Meyer, Andrew Oss, Nicholas Oss and Nathan Oss; step-great-grandchildren, Alden Dauer and Reese Dauer.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Nellie Erickson, daughter, Ronda Erickson, granddaughter, Jessica Helm, sister-in-law, Faye Erickson, and first wife, Marcella Erickson.
Memorial Gathering will be Saturday, March 19, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
