Letty C. Nelson

Nelson, Letty, age 80 of Maple Grove, MN went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 8, 2022.

Letty was born at her grandparent’s farm on a warm January day in 1942, and she grew up with two brothers and one sister on her parent’s farm north of Hawley, MN. Everyone in the family helped with the work. There was plenty of fun, too, with many card games, dances, movies, 4-H, church, and school events.

After graduating high school she lived a year in Fargo before moving to Minneapolis. She was married twice, first to Richard Tiegs, the father of her two children, Eileen and Tom. Letty enjoyed her accounting career including 31 years with SRF Consulting Group, retiring in 2006. Over the years she shared her time and treasure teaching children on Sundays, Habitat renovations, choirs, parades and bringing fun as a clown. She enjoyed variety and never stopped learning, having many memories from travels to Alaska, Mexico, Canada, London, Paris, Germany, the Netherlands, and parts of the U.S. She also joined mission trips to China, Belarus, Israel, and Africa. Letty remained a farm girl at heart and time with her family was precious to her. She especially loved flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lottie Nelson; infant brother, Eugene; a brother-in-law, Delbert Tysdal; her brother, Gene and his wife Marlene Nelson. Survived by siblings, Kermit (Bev) Nelson, and Darlene Tysdal; by her beloved children Eileen Tiegs and Tom (Stacy) Tiegs; by grandchildren, Samantha Tiegs, Jonathan Tiegs, Emily (Matthew) Logan, and Nathan Tiegs; by great-grandchildren, Sophia Benson, Noah, Leo and Lars Logan and expected Baby Girl Logan; and several relatives and friends.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, October 29 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN. A private interment with the family at Lysne Cemetery, Hawley, MN.
