Lewis A. Westlake

Lewis A. Westlake, 69, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, after an unexpected cardiac event. Lewis (Lew) Allen Westlake was born April, 16, 1952, the youngest of 10 children, to John and Ruby (Wright) Westlake. He grew up in Plummer, MN, where he attended and graduated from Pershing High School. Lew continued his education at Concordia College, where he graduated with a major in accounting and a minor in religion. On August 21,1976, Lew married his best friend, Diane Delage. The two of them settled in Moorhead, MN, and have built a beautiful life together with their two daughters, Erin and Amy. He spent 36 years working for American Crystal and United Sugars. He retired from United Sugars in April of 2014, a career he enjoyed where he worked with people he cared a lot about. After retirement, he started a new journey as the financial manager at The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, where he again worked with some great friends.

Family was Lew’s biggest passion in life. He was the coolest “girl-dad” ever. His love for his family was so evident in everything he did. His grandchildren meant the world to him; being their papa was something he embraced and cherished as his greatest blessing. In Lew’s spare time, he loved taking care of his award-winning yard, fishing, hunting and shooting the breeze with anyone who wanted to visit and listen to his silly jokes. Lew will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, faith, and his willingness to put others first. He will be greatly missed.

Lew is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diane; daughters, Erin Clasemann (Daryl) and Amy Arel (Fiancé Andy Glynn); grandchildren, Brenna, Molly, Aubrey, and Brady and 2 bonus grandchildren, Ali and Jacob Glynn; siblings, Charlie Westlake, of Manitowoc, WI, Ruthella (Vince) Austad of Nashwauk, MN, Phyllis Rystad of Oklee, MN; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruby; mother and father-in-law, Nora and Willie Delage; siblings, George Westlake Sr., Ole (Betty) Westlake, Roy Westlake, Nellie (Wayne) Galley, Annie (Roy) Van Den Einde, infant sister Little Nell; brother-in-law, Ordean Rystad; nephews, Jimmy Bruggeman, George (Ike) Westlake Jr., Dave Westlake; niece, Jane Van Den Einde; and many special members of the Delage family.

Memorials will be shared with The Lutheran Church of Christ the King and charities that Lew was passionate about.

Visitation will be Friday, October 29, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of Christ the King in Moorhead, MN at 1900 14^th St. S.
