Lewis M. Metcalf

Lewis M. Metcalf, 84, of Caldwell, Idaho, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019.

Lewis was born July 6, 1934 to Banker & Louise Metcalf in Glyndon, Minnesota, at home.  He grew up with three brothers and one sister in rural Glyndon.

Lewis graduated from Glyndon High School in 1953.  Following high school, he was drafted in the Army and specialized in microwave towers.  After the Army, he joined the Air Force in 1959 and became a full-time ground communications technician for the North Dakota Air National Guard where he served 32 years of military service.  Lewis served seven years as a captain in the ND wing, civil patrol.  Captain Metcalf contributed hundreds of volunteer hours building three mobile communication vans facilitating disaster response capabilities for the state of North Dakota.

Lewis was a volunteer fireman for many years for the Glyndon Fire Department.  He loved fishing, photography, camping and hunting with his family.

Lewis married Barbara Bond in 1961 in Glyndon Congregational Church.  They lived in Glyndon and moved to Fargo, ND in 1968 with his wife and three children, Kevin, Shelley, and Douglas.  Lewis and Barbara moved to Caldwell, Idaho in 1989.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 58 years; daughter, Shelley (David) Marvin of Bloomington, IL; sons, Kevin (Cindi) Metcalf of Bullhead City, AZ, and Douglas (Julie) Metcalf of Navarre, FL; and five grandchildren, Greg (Ashley) & Tina Metcalf, Teagan Tretter (Marvin) (Michael) Kellan Marvin, and Corbin Metcalf. Survived by one brother Ronald (Judy) Metcalf Fargo,ND

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim & Roger Metcalf and sister, Margaret Metcalf.

Lewis will be missed by his loving Family.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN, at a later date.
