Lillian Johnson Gruhl, 98, Hawley, MN, died on Monday, January 23, 2017 in Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN.
Lillian Johnson was born on April 18, 1918, near Hawley, MN, to Edwin and Ida Nordling Johnson. She grew up and attended school in rural Hawley.
Lillian Johnson and Max Gruhl were united in marriage on October 27, 1937 at the Hawley Lutheran Parsonage by Rev. S.G. Hauge. They lived on the home Gruhl farm for 32 years, before moving to Hawley in 1969. She was a life-long member of Lysne Church and active in Ladies Aid, Circle and Luther League.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Max; two sons James and Eugene; parents; two brothers Carl and Ronald Johnson; four sisters Edla Quam, Esther Purrier, Louise Jammes and Alice Gross.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Tom Wilson, Elk River, MN; son David Patricia Gruhl, Hawley, MN; daughter-in-law Dianne Mike Fillmore, Detroit Lakes, MN; brother Julian Betty Johnson, Hawley, MN; sister Marlys Kenneth Christianson, Detroit Lakes, MN; sister-in-law, Harriet Johnson, Lake Park, MN; five grandchildren Karen Blommer, Matthew Etemad-Gilbertson, Jackie Santa, Julie and Steven Carlson; two step-grandchildren Kip and Teague Dombeck; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral: Friday, January 27, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. in Lysne Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN, with visitation one hour before the funeral in the church.
Interment: Lysne Lutheran Church Cemetery.
