Lloyd Duane Alm, 84, of Hawley, MN, died Monday, January 6, 2020, at Valley Care and Rehab Center in Barnesville, MN.
Lloyd was born April 17, 1935, in Skree Township, to (Guy) Albert and Florence (McDonald) Alm. He attended school through the 8th grade in rural Hawley. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He was stationed in Germany, was in the Honor Guard and received a Good Conduct Medal.
He was united in marriage to Janice Stephenson on March 25, 1961 at North Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids and they made their home in rural Hawley where they raised their 4 children.
Lloyd began working at Kost Brothers/Camas (now Aggregate Industries) at the age of 17, and retired in 1996 after 44 years of service. Lloyd also spent his lifetime as a farmer, rancher, horse-breeder and owner. He served on the Clay County Fair Board for 33 years and Lloyd and Janice received the Friends of the Clay County Fair Award, Clay County Valley Farmer and Homemaker Award, and also the Hawley Rodeo Award. They were charter members of the Hawley Golden Riders. Lloyd was a lifelong member of Hegland Lutheran Church, a lifetime 4-H member and supporter, lifetime member of Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion, and member of the Hawley Lions.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Janice, of Hawley; sons, Lynn Alm and Lee (Brandi) Alm, both of Hawley; daughters, Lisa (Chuck) Alm-Plaziak, of Maple Grove, MN and Londa (Ryan) Anderson, of Hawley; grandsons, Austin, Lane and Logan Alm and Jacob, Jordan and Jayson Plaziak; and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Alm and sister, Angie Sandvik.
