Lloyd E. Olson

Lloyd Earl Olson, 80, of Glyndon, MN, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN.

Lloyd was born in Mahnomen, MN on July 31, 1935, to Guy and Alice Larson Olson. He graduated from Waubun High School in 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958 and he served his country until 1961. On June 12, 1965, Lloyd was united in marriage to Marlys Beckman, and they made their home in Moorhead where their three children were born. In 1973 the family purchased land and built a hobby farm near Glyndon, MN. In 2007, Lloyd and Marlys left the farm and moved to Glyndon. Marlys died on November 29, 2010 and Lloyd continued to live in Glyndon for about a year after her death. He then lived in various senior living communities, eventually moving to Twin Valley Living Center where he resided at the time of his death.

While living in Glyndon, Lloyd was active as a volunteer fire fighter, Boy Scout Webelo leader, and member of the Glyndon Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Glyndon Lutheran Church for many years. He also enjoyed helping area farmers, especially his brother, Merlyn, during the harvest season.

Lloyd is survived by his two sons, Darin Samantha Olson, of Barrett, MN, and Monty Susan Olson, of Glyndon, MN; one daughter, Marita Tom Palya, of Barnesville, MN; one brother, Merlyn Sylvia Olson, of Twin Valley, MN; his eight grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler Samantha, Cody, Kyle, Cayla, Ashlyn Chris, Austin Mikaylah, and Aric; his three great-grandchildren, Brody, Nora, and Tucker, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marlys, and his special dog, Mitzi.
