Lorraine Gail (Hanson) Haugstad, also known as Lolly, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND. Lorraine was born in Nielsville, MN on December 30, 1932, to John and Inez (Paulson) Hanson. She grew up on a farm in Nielsville and graduated from Climax High School. In the fall of 1950, she attended and graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND.
Lorraine married Edgar Haugstad on June 22, 1952 at Saint Petri Church, Nielsville, MN. She was a beautiful bride. They made their home in Moorhead and the family grew with the addition of their four children: Richard, Jeffrey, Rebecca and Jane. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker.
Lorraine began her career at the JCPenney Company in 1968 at the store on Broadway, Fargo ND. When JCPenney moved to West Acres, she stayed another 10 years. She worked in the office and drapery department until retiring at the age of 55. Upon her retirement, Lorraine was presented with the “Golden Ruler” which was an honor.
Lorraine enjoyed playing the piano and was delighted with her children taking piano lessons. She attended the music recitals of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She continued her Mother’s work in genealogy and loved doing research and connecting with people. It was a labor of love in learning and sharing her Norwegian heritage with others.
She was involved in church activities, enjoyed traveling, and was an avid reader. She was a savvy senior on her computer. She was an animal lover and enjoyed her grand-dogs. Most of all, Lorraine was a loving, dedicated grandma.
Lorraine also loved baking which showcased her Scandinavian roots: rosettes, krumkake, pizzelles and lefse – to name a few. For many years, she displayed her beautiful china that was passed on from previous generations. She took special care and pride of these pieces and loved to tell the stories behind them.
She was preceded in death by her husband; both her parents; one sister, Idelle Sandberg.
Left to cherish her memory are children: Richard (Peggy) Haugstad, Jeffrey (Leslie) Haugstad, Rebecca Malme, and Jane Johnson.
