Lorraine M. Jacobson

December 17, 1927 — December 27, 2020

Lorraine Marjorie Jacobson was born December 17, 1927 in the home of her parents Carl Olaf (C.O.) and Selma (Flatness) Anderson in Cuba Township, Lake Park, Minnesota. Her nickname was Tuppan, and one of the sheep she raised followed her like a shadow.

On her first day of country school, while playing outside at recess, Lorraine noticed the local doctor drive by in his horse and buggy. Returning home that afternoon, Lorraine discovered she was big sister to a newborn baby named Dolores. Five years later another sister, Barbara, completed the family.

One particular incident which greatly affected Lorraine was falling through the ice on Stinking Lake on her way to school. Her screams summoned a neighbor, who rescued her from drowning in the frigid water.

In ninth grade, Lorraine transferred to Lake Park High School, graduating with the class of 1945. She made several life-long friends while attending LPHS.

When a young man from Hitterdal came to help on the Anderson farm, Lorraine was smitten. She and Wallace Jacobson were married at Eksjo Lutheran Church on May 24, 1946. They built a house next to Lorraine’s parents, where they raised their four children.

Beginning with Luther League, where Lorraine sang many solos, she was very active in Eksjo Lutheran Church. She attended Circle, Ladies Aid and, annually, organized the afternoon program for the Eksjo Midsummer Picnic. She also belonged to a Homemakers Club, which she greatly enjoyed.

First and foremost, however, Lorraine lived for, and loved, her family. She was a fantastic cook and always had delicious baked goods for friends and family who stopped by.

Lorraine is survived by her daughters Ruth (Kuldip) Lumb, Alice (John) Raknerud, Dagney (Calvin) Tollefson, and son, Russell (Amy) Jacobson; her sister Barbara (Bob) Wold, and brother-in-law, Dennis Marquardt.

She is also survived by three generations of grandchildren: her grandchildren, Chris (Tammy) Erickson, Darin (Debbie) Erickson,  Chad Erickson, Shiv Lumb, Traci Raknerud, Wyatt Tollefson and Lauren (Jared) Sandeen; her great-grandchildren, Cody (Jayme) Erickson, CieGie (Ben) Hilde, Carlie (Nick) Green, Ella (Brock) Langerud, Chelsie Kollman, Ashton, Ethan and Preston Erickson, Chase (Leandra) Zeller, Riley and Sylas Carlson, Brayden and Hayley Sandeen, and Jacob (Mattie) Merritt; and her great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Anderson, Kashton and Kennedy Erickson, Presley Hilde, Lincoln Langerud, Samara and Canute Merritt, and Baby Girl Zeller due January 2021.

Preceding Lorraine in death were her parents; husband, Wallace Jacobson; sister, Dolores Marquardt; and grandson, Eric.

A private visitation will be Thursday, December 31, 2020, from noon to 1:00 P.M., followed by a private funeral service at 1:00 P.M. at Eskjo Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park, MN. Following CDC guidelines, masks are required and social distancing must be observed.  For those unable to attend, the service will be recorded and posted to Lorraine’s webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com, where there will also be a video tribute and online guestbook.
