Lowell A. Aker, age 80, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.Lowell Arnold Aker was born on August 13, 1931, to Sander and Clara Rude Aker in Climax, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Climax Lutheran Church. Lowell graduated from Climax High School in 1949. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in England for three years before being honorably discharged in 1953 at which time he began his career with American Crystal Sugar Company. In 1955, Lowell married Joan Cooper in Crookston, MN. They lived in Missoula, Montana from 1955 until he was transferred to Denver, Colorado in 1966. They later moved to Fargo in 1973 where Lowell retired in 1993 after nearly 40 years with American Crystal Sugar Company.Lowell was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting small and big game throughout the summer and winter months. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time at the lake. For the last 20 years, Lowell and Joan spent the winter months at their home in Sun City West, AZ. He made golf his passion and as a hobby he made golf clubs for himself as well as his friends. Lowell will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan Aker of Fargo, ND; two daughters, Julie Gordon Richardson of Fargo, ND and Susan Jim Pederson of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Sean Sandra Calhoun of Fargo, ND, Zachary Pederson of Fargo ND, and Elizabeth Pederson of Greeley, CO; great-grandson, Vaughn Calhoun as well as nine nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Dennis, Milton, Robert and Lawrence.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sanford Health, Palliative Care Unit.
