Lowell F. Nelson
May 30, 1945 – January 11, 2016
We will forever miss your big smiles and booming laugh.
Born to John & Cecilia Krabbenhoft Nelson, Lowell was the youngest of four brothers. After graduating from Moorhead HS, he attended NDSU where he played basketball for the Bison.
He married “his girl” Sandy Gray on February 5th, 1966. Together, they farmed south of Sabin where they say the best crop they ever raised were their three sons: Chad, Shane, and Cody.
In 1976, Lowell was the recipient of the Clay County Outstanding Young Farmer Award. Lowell was also very grateful of his opportunity to work with farmers during the farm crisis, which led to many public speaking engagements and an ABC Nightline episode.
Lowell took an active role in his sons’ interests; coaching basketball and softball, leading 4H club, and enjoying family time at their Big Cormorant lake place.
He lived his faith and was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran in Sabin serving in various capacities throughout his life.
His retirement years were full of semi driving, lawn mowing, sporting events, numerous trips to the DQ, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Lowell is preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry, nephew Paul, and several in-laws.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy, three sons: Chad Liza, Shane Tara, and Cody Amanda; the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Axl, Sydney, Brooklyn, Brielle, Cole, and a grandbaby due this summer, two brothers: Jerold Pam and Allan.
