Luella E. Holmquist

November 23, 1922 — July 19, 2015

Luella was born to proud parents Emil and Bertha Wenger on the family farm in Hancock, MN on November 23, 1922. She passed away peacefully at her son’s home on July 19, 2015. She grew up in Moorhead, Minnesota and graduated with honors from Moorhead High School in 1941. She loved attending school. After graduating, she married Kenneth Holmquist on Nov. 23, 1941. They lived many years on the family farm north of Fargo, North Dakota where she was an essential part of the farming operation. She drove trucks and threw bundles of wheat into the thrasher, all while keeping everyone fed. When it was decided to keep animals on the farm, she was one of the primary caretakers. She also worked at the Tastee Freez in Moorhead and the American Crystal cafeteria. She had an active interest quilting and was a founding member of her beloved Bethesda Church quilters. She was an excellent instrumentalist on her hawaiian guitar, leading to her being broadcast over live local radio. She spent much of her free time at Lee Lake, where her and Ken rented a section at the campground. She and her family enjoyed being part of Homemakers, 4H, as well as the 2 way radio club. Above all else, she always looked forward to spending time with her family and her friends. In her final years, Hospice of the Red River Valley was very involved in her care. She appreciated their expertise and the company they provided her. She was dearly beloved and will be missed by all who knew her.
