Luella J.E. Karevold

LuElla Joann Effie Karevold, 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN. LuElla Brekke was born September 25, 1932, to Leonard and Rose Minarik Brekke. She grew up near Greenbush and graduated from the AC Agricultural College in Crookston, MN, where she met Carl “Gilmore” Karevold. They were married on June 9, 1951. Together they made their home and farmed near Fosston, MN. She was well known in the area for her singing and belonged to the McDowell Club an area women’s choir. LuElla also worked for many years as a CNA, at a nursing home in McIntosh, MN and enjoyed caring for others. She was a great cook, great baker as well as a talented seamstress. Around age 50 she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. She enjoyed life on the farm until 1983, then due in part, to failing health, they moved to Moorhead. Most recently she resided at Golden Living Center in Moorhead.

LuElla is survived by her children, LuAnn Dale Hanson of Richfield, MN, Sheryl Berg of Fargo, ND, Lorie Jeff Leslie of St. Michael, MN, Bruce Jolene Karevold of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Mara Hanson, Mark Valerie Hanson, Christopher Christina Berg, Heather Josh Cameron, Jeff Leslie, Jr., Bruce Leslie, Hanna Karevold, Emily Karevold, and great-grandchildren, Cody, Wazir, Bakr, Jared and Idrese Jafar, Blake Leslie, Savannah & Sydney Ellison and Hayden Cameron.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; grandsons, Paul Hanson and Jacob Hanson; her parents; and siblings, Adeline Day, Lenore Lee and Menford Brekke.

Thank you to everyone at Golden Living Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the wonderful loving care and attention that was given her. As well as the care she received when she lived with Gary and Lynn Brock. She was a little angel with a sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes. She will be dearly missed.

Funeral: Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 2 p.m., in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN.
Visitation: Saturday, from 1-2 p.m., in the church.
Interment: Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
