Lyle Elden Olson, 91, Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. He went to be with "the guy upstairs". Lyle was born January 16, 1921 to Ingbert and Dusean Raaum Olson in Fargo, ND. Lyle attended Central High School where he played on the hockey team, which during that time won the state hockey tournament. Lyle entered the service November 12, 1942, where he served under Patton's 3rd Army, HQ, 21st Armored Infantry Battalion, 11th Armored Division. He was a specialist in tank repair. Lyle received campaign stars for participation in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he started with the Fargo Fire Department, where he worked the next 27 years. During that time Lyle met Marjorie Catherine Bloom. They were married on February 13, 1948. They spent the next 62 years together until Marge passed away on January 30, 2010. After retiring from the Fire Department, Lyle went into hog farming and raising musk melons. Once Marge retired they spent their summers on Lake Maud and their winters in Arizona. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Violet Ness, Viola Cull, Marriam Bud Olson, Joseph Babe Olson, Kenneth Olson and Percy Thompson. Lyle will be greatly missed by his four children: James E. Olson, Robert B. Alicia Olson, Cathy D. Chico Priewe, and Carol Linstad; sister, Dolores Johnson; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
