Lynden E. Mohler

July 30, 1940 — November 23, 2021

Lynden Mohler, 81, of Fargo, N.D., formerly of Moorhead, MN, died on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

Lynden Everell Mohler was born on the family farm in Inman Township, Otter Tail County, MN on July 30, 1940 to Elmer Clifton & Elma Alyna (Anderson) Mohler.  He grew up on the farm and developed a life-long love of horses, attending the District 206 one-room school in Inman Township, and spoke German and Finnish while growing up.

During the late summer of 1957, at the age of 17, Lynden rode his horse, “Lady,” from his uncle’s farm in Sebeka, MN, about 2000 miles to Mesa, Arizona, a story he loved to tell.

He graduated from high school in Mesa, Arizona in 1958, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and was honorably discharged several years later.  He later attended college at North Dakota State College of Science and became an LPN.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army and worked as a nurse recruiter for many years.

Throughout his career, Lynden also worked as a mechanic for Chapman Chevrolet in Arizona, for the Ward County (N.D.) Highway Department, and many other jobs, living in Minnesota, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, and Minot, N.D.  He eventually wound up in Fargo, N.D. in the mid-1980s.

In 1962, he married Cheryl “Terry” Knight in Arizona, and had children Zane, Tracy, Kylynn, and Todd.  He then married Marie Hanson and they had a daughter, Lynette.  He married Lynne Janice Swanson on September 21, 1991 in Oak Mound Congregational Church, Kragnes Township, MN.  To them, a daughter Janice was born, who passed away in 2019.

Following their marriage, Lynden, Lynne, and Janice lived in Fargo, West Fargo, Hannibal, MO, Eagan, MN, and moved to Moorhead, MN in 1998 after Lynden retired from the Army, being honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class.  He moved to Bethany Retirement Living in 2017.

Lynden was a member of the Oak Mound Congregational Church in Kragnes Township, MN, and was baptized and confirmed a few years ago at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead.  He was also a member of the Red River Finns and the Lake Agassiz Two-Cylinder Club.

Lynden’s hobbies included mechanics, anything handyman related, word finds, painting, writing, collecting guns and coins, fishing, driving his restored 1939 Chevy sedan, riding his last horse, “Chloe,” listening to 1950s and ‘60s country music, and taking many trips to Arizona to visit family.

Lynden is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lynne; children, Zane (Brenda) Mohler, Lawton, OK, Tracy (Wendy) Mohler, Elgin, OK, Kylynn (Vivian) Mohler, Beloit, WI, Todd Mohler, Gastonia, N.C., Lynnette (Joseph) Methner, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Amanda Mohler, Cassie Warren, Ashley (Patrick) Glueck, Daniel Mohler, Jessica (Isaac) Taylor, David (Tyli) Mohler, Shyla Mohler, Landon Mohler, Sheradon Mohler and Kody Mohler; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma (Glen) Rice, Coolidge, AZ, and Lona (Bob) Maat, Coolidge, AZ; his father-in-law, Alvin Swanson, Moorhead, MN; siblings-in-law, Marie Mohler, Avondale, AZ, Julie (Dale) Veselka, Tower City, N.D., Carla (Craig) Hurner, Glyndon, MN, David (Cindy) Swanson, Kragnes, MN, Greg Swanson, Moorhead, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
