Lynn C. Prom

Ethelyn (Lynn) Hansen Prom passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 97, in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Lynn was born in Duluth MN, to Herbert and Clara Nelson on June 3, 1927. She grew up there and attended college and taught school for two years in Superior WI. Lynn married Verlin Hansen in 1950. They resided in the Fargo-Moorhead area and together raised three children, Tim Hansen, Houston TX, Mary (Greg) Zimmerman, Billings MT, and Patricia (Jon) Johnson, Carver MN. Verlin died in 1971.

Lynn married Math Prom in 1974 and the couple became active within the Fargo-Moorhead community, particularly in ecumenism, speaking to various local groups about their Lutheran-Catholic marriage.

Lynn enjoyed a long teaching career in Fargo, Dilworth and Moorhead. In the Moorhead district she implemented the STEP program, one of the area's first initiatives for academically gifted students. In 1987 Lynn joined the education department at Concordia College, retiring in 1995. She resided at Riverview Place in Fargo for nine years prior to moving to Riley Crossing Senior Living, Chanhassen.

Along with her three children Lynn is survived by her brother Glen, grandchildren Kate (Steve) Curtis Chaska; Aaron Johnson, Chaska; Josh (Elizabeth) Zimmerman, Wellington FL; great-grandchildren Devin, Nolan and Brendan Curtis, and Augustine Zimmerman. She is also survived by six stepchildren, Marianne Prom, Ray (Tina) Prom, Steve (Liz) Prom, David (Lynda) Prom, Debra Prom, Lisa (Randy) Carpenter and their children and grandchildren.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother Richard Nelson, sister Lois Reich and grandson Chris Zimmerman.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 21, at the Wright Funeral Home, 605 S Second Ave, Moorhead, with visitation one hour prior to the service and lunch following. Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Moorhead. Memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Lutheran Social Services or Dorothy Day.
