Mabel was born to Carl J. and Mary Peterson Anderson on February 19, 1913 in Highland Grove Township, rural Hawley, MN, where she grew up and attended school. She was married to Richard Johnson on June 17, 1938 at Lake Park, Minnesota. They farmed near Dale until his death in 1960, she then sold her farm and made her home with her parents. In 1994 she moved into Hawley and continued to live there until January 2006, when she entered the Viking Manor Nursing Home. Mabel was a life-long active member and past organist of Highland Grove Lutheran Church. She was confirmed in Swedish and was proud of her heritage and could speak fluent Swedish. She was a seamstress and loved gardening and flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Carl J. and Mary Anderson; and a brother, Albert Anderson. She is survived by four sisters, Bessie Anderson & Lila Anderson, Ulen, MN; Violet Nelson, Moorhead, MN, and Fern Softing, Fargo, ND; six nieces and nephews.
