Mae P. Richards

Mae Pauline Richards, 89, Moorhead, MN, beloved mother and grandmother, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on February 23, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND, with her family by her side.

Mae Vangerud was born on March 21, 1923 in Fargo, ND to Ingvald and Betsy Gaard Vangerud. She attended schools in Fargo and, after high school, entered St. Luke’s School of Nursing, graduating in 1944.

On April 22, 1944, Mae and Wilbert Wolter were married and farmed near Hendrum, MN. In the late 1950s, they moved to Moorhead, MN, where Mae was employed at the Fargo Clinic for over 15 years.
On December 28, 1977, Mae married Thomas Richards and retired from the Fargo Clinic. They farmed north of Moorhead for many years and enjoyed traveling and visiting family.

Mae enjoyed singing and was a member of the Sweet Adelines for 23 years. Her church, Our Savior’s Lutheran in north Moorhead was an important part of her life , and she always had time to give care and comfort to any in need.

Mae was a loving, generous and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was devoted to her family and friends. Loved by all, she will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her strong faith and her kind heart.

Surviving are her children: Janice Johnson of Franklin, IN; Judy Thompson of Albany, OR; Gary Jeanne Wolter of Shiloh, AZ; Donald Jo Wolter of Athens, TN; Keith Patty Wolter of Fargo, ND and Mark Sue Wolter of Hawley, MN.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister Beverly Wolter and brothers: Isel Alice Vangerud and Leon Vangerud.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilbert Wolter, husband Thomas Richards and grandson Benjamin Wolter.

Visitation: Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
