Maida Rhoda Eldevick

Maida Rhoda (Tesch) Eldevick, 87, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018, in Sanford Health Hospital, Fargo, ND. Maida was born on August 2, 1931, to Gottlieb and Emma (Krone) Tesch in Lidgerwood, ND. She always found it amusing that she was actually born in a tent during a summer of extensive renovation to her parents’ farmhouse.

Maida graduated from Lidgerwood High School and went on to earn her teachers certificate from Valley City State Teachers College. She taught in Lidgerwood, ND Country Schools for two years. She was united in marriage to Marvin Eldevick on August 3, 1950 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Lidgerwood, ND. They moved to Moorhead, MN to the house where they would reside for the rest of their lives. Maida was a homemaker with seven children until 1970 when she went back to work as a library aide at the Moorhead Senior High School.

Maida’s first priority, after her children, was the Church. She was very active at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church, participating in the Cathedral Choir, Altar Guild, Bible Study, and the Ladies Guild. Maida was a lifelong bowler, beginning her bowling adventures in high school up until 2017 and earned the Senior Kegler Award for bowling proficiency. She loved gardening, yardwork, flowers, jigsaw puzzles, the daily Fargo Forum crossword puzzles, and reading her Bible. Maida loved to travel visiting family, friends, and new places she had never seen.  Her favorite excursion was a Cruise to the Caribbean with her husband Marv. Maida loved to tell stores, laugh, play Cribbage, and sing in the chorus for the FM Opera performances.

Maida is survived by her children, Christy (Larry) Werder, Jo (Keith Schonert) McCleary, Laurinda Eldevick (Lance) Mordue, Bradley (Karen) Eldevick, Dr. Karen Eldevick (Charles) Truscon, Cindy (Paul) Weir, and Penny (Lee) Briese; grandchildren, Paul (Nichole) Werder, Andrew (Jen) Werder, Jeffrey Werder, Rebecca (Robert) Olson, MerriAnne (Nate Croat) Werder, Jay (Lisa) McCleary, Mike (Erica) McCleary, Brian (Charlene) McCleary, Stephanie (Fiance, Roger Sharp) Hernandez, Justin Hernandez, Aaron and Perry Truscon, Cathryn Weir, Mellissa Weir, Zachary Weir, Raechel Weir, Brayton (Sarah) Fox, Tristan Fox, William (Fiance, Christopher Baxter) Fox, and Caetlin (Steven) May; great-grandchildren, Kaelee, Lauren, Jaxon, Grace, Laeken, Waverly, Jeffrey Jr. and  Anthony Werder, Jaden and Ally Holewa, Lilian Olson, Charlotte Unwin, Emma, Hailey, Brody, Mason, Brooklyn, Aiden, and Connor McCleary; great-great-grandchildren, Greyson Werder and Astrid May; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gottlieb and Emma; husband, Marvin; brothers, Jerry and Manny; and sisters, Cordula and Lucinda. We will miss her laughter and quick wit.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue Friday, January 4, 2019, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. followed by funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
